Ancestral Graves
As outsiders, Asian Americans are expected to work, and to work hard. We are supposed to be the “model minority”, and be the exemplary example to the rest of society that the American Dream is indeed possible. And many of us work diligently and sacrifice much in order to realize that dream. Along the way, how many of us needed to disconnect from parts of us that were once so integral to our being? With or without consciousness awareness, what have we needed to lose in order to survive as Asian Americans? What connections to our ancestors and homeland had been severed so we can live?
